Mainely Memories Newsletter - June 17, 2009

Summer is here, but the weather has not been cooperating lately.  I have been using the rainy days to sort through old photos, crop and re-size new digital photos, send them off to be printed and read through some quote books.  You do not have to have a pair of scissors and some adhesive in your hand to be scrapping!  It is hard to find time and table space for hands on scraping when the kids are out of school and the weather is so nice.  Well. Almost nice.

The studio has had new arrivals this month.  Paper Wizard diecuts are in and also posted at the online store.  Fun new Disney, animals, school and sports ahve been added.  There is also a custom made State of Maine diecut that is the nicest I have ever seen.

Pattern paper from October Afternoon has arrived in the following lines: Ducks in a Row, Weather Vane, Night Light, Home Town and Detour.  All paper is heavy weight and double-sided.

The summer class schedule for June and July has an array of weekdays, evening and weekend crops.  Seats are available!  The studio will be closed for crops and classes during the month of August.  I will be available for shopping in August, by appointment only, for adhesive emergencies, unfortunate paper incidents and other calamities. You can call the studio at 428-3944 or email me at

Many of you know both Heidi and Ricky Lee, the grandpups.  They visit during the week and have met many of you by greeting your car with their tails wagging.  And maybe a bark once in while!  Below is Ricky Lee’s story.  If you, or anyone you know, is ready to open their home to a great dog please read his story and pass it on.  Ricky deserves nothing but the best.

WANTED: SPECIAL HOME FOR SPECIAL DOG

Ricky Lee, a 4 year old mix from Arkansas, is looking for that special someone to give him a safe, loving home. It is with great sadness that our young family admits to ourselves that this very special rescue dog isn’t thriving in our active, noisy home.

Ricky was a rescue dog that we fostered almost 3 years ago, before we had plans for a family. Ricky had a very tough start to life, and when he came to us to be fostered, he had never been inside a home or had a family of his own. He was terrified of stairs, cars, doorways, vacuums - you name it! The end of his tail was actually worn off from being confined in a too-small, concrete enclosure for too long. Within a month, we found it impossible to part with him, having seen him make so much progress. We adopted him and he joined our other rescue dog, Heidi.

Ricky Lee is incredibly funny, loving, silly, and sweet. He is also very easily frightened, will never respond to sharp discipline, is still nervous of leashes, and wary of strangers and noisy crowds. I would have never thought an animal could actually express gratitude until I met Ricky Lee and took him into our home. He greets each day with incredible enthusiasm, and is a loving companion.

With the introduction of our baby, Lucy, things got harder for Ricky. He doesn’t mind Lucy so much as the noise that comes along with her - the baby swing, the squawking monitors, the many visitors, and all the crashes and bangs. He has never made a single threatening move towards the baby, in fact, guards her quite staunchly. But he is at his happiest when the house is quiet, he has a warm bed, and some nice pats.

Ricky is: a homebody, a lover, happy eater, can be a barker, nervous of new things, curious, lazy, and protective. Ricky is NOT an animal for an inexperienced dog owner, a young family, an active lifestyle, or frequent traveler. He needs space to explore and exercise, but does need help staying safe. He does best with a fenced yard or underground ‘invisible’ fence (we have one now). He feels safest with an adult woman as his primary caretaker. He would do best as an only dog, or with a strong, dominant dog to take the lead. He is friendly with cats, and has proven this in several different situations. Ricky Lee is mainly white with tan ears and is a thin 45 pounds on his medium height frame.

Ricky Lee is looking for a real forever home. I thought we could give him one, and it kills me to have to consider giving him up. In the end, his happiness is my main concern, and I feel we are not providing the perfect home for him any longer.
